BHSU FB: Yellow Jackets Travel to Adams State Saturday

Setting the Stage: Black Hills State looks for its first win of the 2015 season as it travels to Alamosa, Colorado, to face Adams State Grizzlies. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 62-23 loss to Western State on Swarm Day while Adams State fell 26-0 at Chadron State last week. Adams State is led by first-year head coach Timm Rosenbach, who finished eighth in the 1988 Heisman Trophy voting while at Washington State.

Last Meeting: After spotting the Grizzlies 23 points a year ago, the Yellow Jackets nearly completed the comeback outscoring Adams State 27-14 in the second half but ultimately fell 37-27. Zach Meyer made the first start of his career and threw for 347 yards and two touchdowns while Phydell Paris ran for 82 yards and a touchdown. Auston Hillman threw for 236 yards on 21-of-28 passing for the Grizzlies.

About Adams State: Adams State is coming off back-to-back shutouts including a 26-0 loss at Chadron State. The Grizzlies were limited to 176 yards of offense and just 10 first downs in the contests. Starting quarterback Auston Hillman shifted to wide receiver while true freshman Johnny Feauto made the start. Hillman, the starter in five games averages 180 yards passing with eight touchdowns while James Holtrop is the top targer with 71.83 yards per game with four touchdowns. On the ground, Rashad Hall averages 51.17 yards per game with a pair of end zone finds. Wesley Brandon is the top defender with 43 tackles.

Series History: The Yellow Jackets are still searching for their first victory against Adams State with the series beginning in 2011. Besides the inital meeting in 2011, the other three contests have been decided by 10 points or less.

Coverage: Yellow Jacket fans can catch Steve Ammerman on the call on The Eagle, 95.9 and 96.3 FM. A free webcast can be found via Stretch Internet, the official video provider for RMAC Sports.

Temperature: The five-day outlook shows Saturday as partly cloudy and a high of 64 degrees.

What a win will do: A win on Saturday will give the Yellow Jackets a 1-6 record, stopping them from tying the school record for consecutive losses to start a season. The 0-7 start to the season occurred in 2013.

Fair Play: A common trait amongst John Reiners' squads have been very few penalties. That continues this year as the Green and Gold lead the RMAC with fewest penalty yards per game at just 39.17 and rank ninth in the nation in that category. Black Hills State also leads the RMAC in fewest pentalietes and fewest penalty yards, both ranking top-10 in the nation.
