Football Toughness: A West River County-By-County Breakdown

Last Thursday was a low water mark for west river football, as teams went 0-5 versus east river 11A, 11AA and 11AAA opponents. The combined scores in those games were East River 219, West River 83. My frustration showed through with my Tweet that night.

Of course, the Tweet was Favored and Re-Tweeted by many east river fans, with snarky comments about how all this is expected from west river football teams. The consensus is always the same, west river football just isn't 'tough' enough to compete with east river football. Toughness, in this case means blocking, tackling and often, smash mouth, grind it out running games.

This got me to wondering if football toughness is geographically specific to west river? I rated each county by a score of 1 to 10, with 10 being tough enough to compete with east river. My county-by-county map of football toughness can be seen below----

Some counties, for example, Pennington contains multiple teams (RC Central, RC Stevens, RC Christian, STM, Wall), and thus are a composite toughness for those teams. However, most counties contain only one team, so a toughness number is much easier to assign. How did I did in my assessment? Let's hope 11B and 9 man west river teams perform better next week, especially in the toughness category.
