BHSU WBB: Nore Signs Two on National Signing Day

SPEARFISH, S.D. – Black Hills State University women's basketball head coach has announced that Hannah Cass and Alyssia Martinez have signed their National Letter's of Intent during the early signing period which began Wednesday.

Cass, a native of Newcastle, Wyoming, is a 5-11 guard that has scored 667 points in her high school career, including a 19.6 point per game average as a sophomore.

"I have known Hannah and her family for a while now and because of that we have been able to create a special bond," Nore said. "I thought pretty early on that it would be quite the get to have her commit.

"Not on is she a very talented basketball player, but she truly is a great person as well and someone who will fit in to our culture from day one."

Cass did not play her junior season due to injury but during her freshman and sophomore campaigns, she helped lead Newcastle High School to a pair of four place finishes at the Wyoming State Tournament. Over those two years, averaged 6.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 3.9 steals and 1.7 blocks per game.

"It has always been my dream to play college basketball and I am happy it finally came true," Cass said. "I couldn't be more excited to join a talented group of girls and coaches next year and am truly blessed to be able to continue doing what I love at Black Hills State."

"Basketball wise, Hannah is a versatile player," Nore added. "She is capable of playing on the perimeter and in the post. She will be a great addition to the Black Hills State family."

Martinez, hailing from Highlands Ranch Colorado, is an All-Conference performer at Thunder Ridge High School.

"Alyssia is one of those kids who eats, sleeps and breathes basketball," Nore said. "We brought her in on a visit a while back and you could tell from the get-go that she loved the game and had a high IQ.

Martinez averaged eight points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals per game as a junior where she earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors for the second year in a row.

"I'm beyond excited to be attending Black Hills State next year and I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to continue my basketball career," Martinez said. "I absolutely cannot wait to be out there on the court as a Yellow Jacket."

"Alyssia is a very skilled guard who we anticipate will play multiple guard spots," Nore added. "She also comes from one of the best high school programs in the state of Colorado, so we know she has been taught well and played at a high level. We are very excited to have Alyssia on board."

Cass and Martinez also join the squad with high academics. Cass is first in her class at Newcastle High School with a 4.0 GPA while Martinez earned First Team All-State Academics and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Both will compete for their respective high schools in 2015-16 before attending Black Hills State in the fall of 2016.
