Sports Buzz Game of the Week

Greetings, Buzzland!  Welcome to the latest addition to the SDSB Game of the Week, and be sure to make it to this week’s game.  Spearfish vs St. Thomas More, in Rapid City.  Tomorrow (Tuesday) night.  7:30 pm.  Showdown.

This is going to be a game that’s sure to leave you on the edge of your seat or jumping out of it.  The Cavaliers are currently 9-2 and hosting the 10-2 Spartans, who are fresh on the Class A  scene.  Currently the Spartans have a slight edge in SDHSAA power points - which means this game will definitely have end of season and playoff implications.

The Spartans have had a pretty good season to date.  The Spartans have tallied significant wins over Region 8 teams like Belle Fourche (8-3) in a 68-30 rout and Custer (7-4) by nearly a 20 point margin.  The Spartans are also riding the wave from a 60-53 road win over Sturgis last Friday.  They’re season opener against Red Cloud (Region 7, 11-1) resulted in a 65-73 loss for the Spartans at Red Cloud, and, interestingly, their other loss was to RC Stevens in a 25 point margin.

St. Thomas More’s first loss was served by Sioux Falls Washington (8-4, AA) in the second game of their season.  It was a 42-58 battle across the River.  Also, the Cavs’ second loss came from Sisseton by only three points...the night before STM went on to beat Aberdeen Roncalli (7-3) 54 to 42 in the Christmas Classic in Aberdeen.  Like Spearfish, the Cavs have a 20 point win over Custer, and they also clocked a great matchup with Clark/Willow Lake (9-2) for a 62-59 on-the-road, overtime win.

There’s going to be a lot to watch in this game.  All evidence seems to show that these two teams have their talent distributed throughout their squads, and given how their seasons have been unfolding, these two teams have been through some grueling battles and both have had multiple decisive victories.  If you can make it, go to this game!
