BHSU Rodeo: Two South Dakota Natives Chosen as Floyd Scholarship Recipients

SPEARFISH, S.D. - Black Hills State University and head rodeo coach Glen Lammers has announced two signees to the Yellow Jacket Rodeo Team and are recipients of the Joe and Elaine Floyd Scholarship.

Alyssa Lockhart and KeAnna Ward are the recipients for this year's scholarship which is in the name of Joe and Elaine Floyd. Elaine attended Black Hills State and then worked at the University and both have participated in various events for the University.

Lockhart is currently a senior at Hot Springs High School where she maintains a 4.0 GPA. She is active in volleyball, basketball and rodeo. Her most recent rodeo accomplishments include the 2015 National Little Britches Rodeo Association Champion Barrel Racer, 2015 Northwest Ranch Cowboys Association Champion Barrel Racer and is also a National High School Finals Rodeo Qualifier.

"I am very pleased that Alyssa has chosen to be a Yellow Jacket," Lammers said. "She brings experience and excellent horsemanship skills along with a great attitude to our program. Her skills and personality will definitely make her an asset to our team."

Lockhart is a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council at Hot Springs High School. She enjoys working on her family's ranch near Oelrichs, South Dakota.

Ward is a native of Fruitdale, South Dakota, where she attends Belle Fourche High School. She owns a 4.0 GPA and enjoys competing in several sports including rodeo. KeAnna is a three-time short-go qualifier at the South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo and All-Around Champion at the Buffalo Regional Rodeo.

"KeAnna has a strong work ethic and a lot of potential," Lammers said. "Her talent and character make her a perfect fit four our team. I look forward to working with KeAnna as she joins our Yellow Jacket family this fall."

Ward is a member of the National Honor Society and assists with Special Olympics activities. KeAnna enjoys mentoring youth and plans to study elementary education at Black Hills State.

"Having the opportunity to award the Floyd Scholarship to two freshman is outstanding," Lammers added. "I can't thank the Floyds enough for their generosity and support for these young ladies."
