Mitchell Native Determan Signs with Lancers as Two Sport Athlete

Mount Marty College is pleased to announce the signing of Gray Determan to the men’s basketball and men’s tennis programs and will attend Mount Marty College this fall.

During Determan’s senior year on the basketball floor, he averaged 8.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 1 block.  The 6’3’’ wing was great for the Kernels using his athleticism to score as he shot 41% from the field.  Determan also helped the Mitchell Kernels advance out of their district but fell in the Region 2AA final.  He was also the dunk champion at the Three Class Shootout in Salem, SD this spring representing the Class AA team.

Mount Marty men’s basketball coach, Andrew Baker, speaks to Determan’s future with the Lancers.

“Gray is a tremendous athlete and we need that. He has a nice ability to drive the ball and finish at, and above, the rim. I think he has the ability to be a good defender and will be able to rebound for us,” said Baker.

Determan will also be suiting up in a Lancer uniform next spring for the men’s tennis team. He will be an inaugural member of the first varsity roster for men’s tennis at Mount Marty. This current senior season, Determan has a record of 9-1 in singles and 8-1 in doubles and made it to the state tennis tournament to represent Mitchell High School. He has previously placed first in the ESD in singles in his division and 3rd at state in his division in singles.

Ron Briggs, Mount Marty Men’s Tennis Coach, is excited about the signing of Determan.

“We are excited to have a player of Gray’s caliber on our first men’s tennis team next year,” said Briggs. “It will be fun to have him in a Lancer uniform!”

Determan is the son on Ross and Amber Determan and will study business at MMC.  He is the recipient of an MMC Academic Merit Scholarship as well as Basketball and Tennis Scholarships at Mount Marty College.
