Cobblers Better Raiders; Both RCC, RCS Head East to Start Post-Season

Week 8 Rapid City 11AA Football Recap

    Central (4-5) vs. Stevens (3-6)

The Central Cobblers defeated the Stevens Raiders 41-14 on Thursday night at O’Hara Stadium in Rapid City. The struggling Raiders dropped their third straight, while the Cobblers earned their first win in the last four tries. The win moved the Cobblers to 4-5 to finish the regular season; the loss dropped the Raiders to 3-6 to end the regular season. In a game that featured an excellent crowd, the Cobblers scored early and often and took control of the momentum in the first quarter. QB Mike Norberg connected with Asher Pikula to start the scoring. Taylor Houchin then added a TD run to make it 14-0. Following an interception to end the first quarter, the Cobblers made it 21-0 after a scoring run from Pikula. The Raiders got on the board thanks to a creative fourth-down run from QB Brock Atkinson to make it 21-7, but that would be as close as they would be the entire night. Norberg added a TD run to make it 28-7 at half. The Raiders were able to win the heralded tuba race in between the first and second quarters-the relay race composed of about 8 members of the band carrying the tuba around the track. The second half for the Raiders saw more turnovers, including an interception on their first possession of the second half that resulted in a 38 yard field goal by Houchin to make it 31-7.  Another field goal and TD for the Cobblers completed their scoring for the night, resulting in a 41-14 victory. The Cobblers’ fourth win this season marks a three win improvement from last season, as they prepare to take on Brookings in Brookings in the first round of the playoffs. The Raiders’ three wins are three less than last season. The Raiders will look to pull off the upset in Brandon Valley in their first round playoff matchup.
