Kolby Kost (RCC) inks with Vikings!

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -Augustana University head wrestling coach Jason Reitmeier has announced the signing of six student-athletes during the early signing period.

Hunter Burnett (Pipestone, Minn.), Jack Huffman (Omaha, Neb.), Kolby Kost (Rapid City, S.D.), Jackson Stauffacher (Belle Plaine, Minn.), Michael Suda (Pipestone, Minn.) and Tyler Wagener (Waconia, Minn.) have each signed letters of intent to continue their academic and wrestling careers at Augustana.

“All I can say is wow! We are super excited with this early signing class,” coach Jason Reitmeier said of his early signing class. “This is one of the most talented group of student-athletes we have brought in. When you put them with the last two recruiting classes it makes for an exceptional team. We are extremely excited about the future of Augustana Wrestling. Everyone of these young men know they have a long road in front of them  but they are ready to embrace it and work hard to get Augustana back on top. We are not done yet, this is just the beginning.”

The first day of the early signing period for collegiate wrestling programs was Wednesday, Nov. 8.

Now living in Minnesota he is a two-time undefeated state champ. Hunter is extremely confident in wrestling ability and it shows on the mat. Hunter uses his long frame well in situation wrestling and we look forward to seeing him grow into his body. Hunter also takes pride in his academics and always looking to improve in his studies.”

Jack is solid from every position and has the ability to go big at any moment. Jack is never out of a match which makes him extremely fun to watch and dangerous. He won't be afraid coming into college because of the quality of competition he has seen. Jack is also an outstanding student.”

Kolby Kost | Rapid City, S.D. | Central HS | Weight Class: 165/174

High School: Will graduate in 2018 … Class A state runner-up as a junior … fourth place finish at state as a sophomore … Bismarck Rotary champion as a junior … South Dakota National Fresh/soph dual team member as a sophomore and freshman

Reitmeier on Kost: “Kolby is an absolute brick, chiseled out of granite. He is a fire plug on the mat, pushing the pace and looking to score all the time. He loves jumping around to wrestle the best competition. Kolby is also the ultimate team player, willing to move around for teammates.  That kind of sacrifice is sometimes hard to find in the sport of wrestling. Kolby is a leader by example, we are excited to have that kind of kid in our program. Kolby will also be a Distinguished Scholar at Augustana.”

Jackson Stauffacher | Belle Plaine, Minn. | Belle Plaine HS | Weight Class: 125/133

High School: Will graduate in June of 2018 … two-time state runner-up … 119-20 career record to date … two-time All-Conference and Section champ … three-time placer at the Rumble on the Red … fourth at state as a freshman

Reitmeier on Stauffacher: “Jackson brings a tough, confident attitude to the our program. He grinds out matches and wrestles a collegiate style already, which should translate over well.  Jackson is coached by his dad at Scott West, and Scott has one of the most successful programs in Minnesota that produces many quality collegiate wrestlers. Jackson is another outstanding wrestler coming out of that program and  is also an exceptional student.”

Michael Suda | Pipestone, Minn. | Pipestone Area HS | Weight Class: 125/133

High School: Will graduate in May of 2018 … two-time state champ and three-time state finalist … 187 career wins to this point, which is a school record … two-time All-State honoree and three-time All-Conference … Academic All-State as a junior

Reitmeier on Suda:Michael is an exceptional athlete. He is quick, explosive and strong and can score points in a hurry.  He is very laid back and quiet until he gets on a wrestling mat, then his personality comes out! Michael is very competitive in the classroom, also, which is exactly what we are looking for in a student-athlete.”

Tyler has a great style that brings good technique along with exceptional scrambling ability together for an exciting style. We really believe Tyler hasn't even tapped into his full potential. I think Tyler has wrestled over the years with a chip on his shoulder, with people always overlooking him. We think he has the ability and confident attitude to do great things at Augustana.”
