    SD Mines Athletics: Hardrockers Log nearly 3,000 Community Service Hours

    Rapid City, S.D – The South Dakota School of Mines Athletics  Dept. is pleased to announce that the Hardrocker scholar- athletes completed 2,931.19 hours of community service for the 2017 – 2018 academic year. 

    The football team clocked in 1,313.2 hours, putting on a youth football camp after their spring showcase where they had different drills for the younger kids to participate in. 

    The ‘Rocker men’s basketball logged 659 hours, while the men’s soccer team volunteered for 285.5 hours. Cheerleading put in 244.9 hours, while volleyball had 139.75. Women’s basketball clocked 128.6 hours, followed by cross country and track who put in 100.5 hours. Women’s golf put in 59.74 hours. 

    The Hardrockers projects are very diverse and the athletes participated in programs like:  Mines Buddies, Reading with ‘Rockers, Storybook Island Safe Trick or Treat, Love Inc. Banquet, Kid ‘Rockers Basketball Camp, Black Hills Youth Cheer, and WISE and Youth in Science Movie Day. 

    “I continue to be proud of our well-rounded scholar-athletes at SD Mines with the amount of dedication through their service to the community,” said Tiffany McCampbell, Senior Associate Athletic Director. “This is just one more step in immersing our scholar-athletes within not only the campus, but also the Rapid City community.”
