    BHSU Rodeo: Rodeo opens season in Wisconsin

    SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Black Hills State University rodeo teams are set to compete at the Falcon Frontier Days Rodeo on Saturday 7 and 8. The rodeo is hosted by the University of Wisconsin River Falls.

    The Yellow Jackets return seven competitors from the 2018 College National Finals Rodeo. On the men's side, Colton BackhausCarson Johnston, and Jordan Staton return for the 2018-19 season after competing at the Finals. On the women's side, Carlee JohnstonSavana JohnstonAlyssa Lockhart, and KeAnna Ward are back this year.

    Carlee Johnston won the Great Plains Region All-Around, as well as earning a region championship in breakaway roping last season. She finished fifth in the All-Around at the CNFR. Savana Johnston made the finals at the CNFR last year in breakaway roping.

    The Green and Gold women finished first in the Great Plains Region in the 2017-18 season with 3,890.50 points, over 1,000 points better than second place South Dakota State University. The men were fourth in the region with 2,541.0 points. Aside from Carlee Johnston winning the Region All-Around, Alyssa Lockhart was third in the region.

    Head coach Glen Lammers is the reigning Region Coach of the Year, winning the award in 2017-18 for the second time in three years.

    Following the Hastings Rodeo, the Green and Gold will travel to the Mid Plains Community College Rodeo on September 14 and 15.
