    SD Mines MBB: Trennepohl Tabbed As New Assistant Coach

    RAPID CITY S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines and the men’s basketball program are proud to announce Roger Trennepohl will be joining the Hardrocker staff as the newest assistant coach for the 2018-19 season. 

    Trennepohl is a native of Julesburg, Colorado. He grew up in a coaching family, his father Marvin Trennepohl is in the Colorado Coaches Hall of Fame. Roger played one season of basketball for Chadron State during 1983-84 campaign. Trennepohl graduated from Chadron State in 1990 with a bachelor of science degree in education, as well as endorsements in History, Physical Education and Coaching. 

    Coach Trennepohl has coached more than basketball and has four years of golf coaching experience which includes a 2005 4A Boys State Championship and a 2005 Boys and Girls State Championship while he was at Trinity Christian School in Lubbock, Texas. Trennepohl also has 15 years coaching experience in football as an assistant high school football coach. His team made it to four out of five state football playoffs. He also has seven years of track & Field experience. 

    As a basketball coach, Trennepohl started at Trinity Fellowship Christian School in Amarillo, Texas. During his time there, he took his team to three district championships, four bi-district championships, one regional championship, and one state semi-final appearance. 

    From there Trennepohl moved to Trinity Christian School in Lubbock, Texas, where he became the assistant boys’ basketball coach. While at Trinity Christian, his team were the 2004, 2005 and 2006 4A State Runners-Up, as well as 2006 and 2007 5A Boys Regional Qualifiers. 

    In 2008 Trennepohl moved to Alliance, Nebraska to work at Alliance High School. While in Alliance, he worked as the assistant basketball coach and later became the head basketball coach. During his time as an assistant, he won the Nebraska Western Conference Assistant Male Coach of the Year. He took over the basketball program during his last four years in Alliance. In that time his team posted a record of 50-42 including a 20-6 record in 2017. In 2017, he took the Alliance team to the Class B State Semi-Finals. 

    Aside from being an assistant or head coach, Trennepohl has also been a prominent figure in the basketball community, earning accolades such as TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) State Boys Basketball North All Star Assistant Coach, TAPPS State Boys Basketball North All Star Head Coach, and TAPPS District 1-2A Basketball President. 

    In 2005 Trennepohl was named All Star Head Coach at the Cage Scope Blue Chip Basketball Camp, in 2008 he was a coach at Athletes in Action in Beijing, China. He is also the Founder of C.L.A.S.S. Basketball Camps which specializes in private trainings sessions, and fundamental camps. 

    Trennepohl lives with his wife Beth of 32 years of marriage.  They have two sons AJ and Daniel. AJ is a former Hardrocker and graduate of South Dakota School of Mines and holds the SD Mines school record for three-pointers made in a career (254) and is the No. 20th all-time scorer for the Hardrockers with 1,163 points. Daniel lives with his wife Eden in Nebraska.
