    BHSU WBB: Seamans paces Yellow Jackets to 89-70 victory over Dixie State

    SPEARFISH, S.D. - After Friday night's heartbreaking loss, the Black Hills State University women's basketball team defeated Dixie State, 89-70, in their first matchup on the court. The Yellow Jackets move to a 6-1 overall record (2-1 RMAC).

    Julia Seamans led the Yellow Jackets with 21 points after making seven threes, just one away from tying her own record. Adding to the Jackets victory, with their own career highs were Alyssia Martinez with 17, Raquel Wientjes with 16, and Ashlee Beacom with 10. Morgan Ham led the Green and Gold pulling down 11 boards.

    Dixie State (4-1, 1-2 RMAC) opened the game with a 6-0 run. The Green and Gold immediately responded with a successful run to take the lead. A three pointer for the Trailblazers advanced Dixie State ahead, 19-13. Redshirt sophomore Alyssia Martinez hit a three to bring the score within two. The Yellow Jackets went on a 12-2 run, powered 10 points from freshman Ashlee Beacom after she drained three three-pointers to lead, 43-37, at halftime.

    After taking control in the third quarter, a three-pointer by Racquel Wientjes helped BHSU pull away, leading by five. Julia Seamans added to the party another three for BHSU, giving the Yellow Jackets their largest lead of the game with 17 points. Dixie State hit a three-pointer at the buzzer, but BHSU walked away with the conference win.

    Lisa VanCampen led the Trailblazers with 20 points, and with five rebounds along with London Pavlica and Mariah Martin.

    BHSU shot for 43.1 percent (25-for-58) from the floor, while DSU shot for 46.6 percent (27-for-58) from the field. The Yellow Jackets were 13-for-27 beyond the arc, while the Trailblazers were 7-for-24. The Green and Gold outrebounded Dixie State 38-29. 

    The Green and Gold will next head on the road for a four-game stretch. The Yellow Jackets will travel to take on Adams State on December 15, and Fort Lewis on December 16. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
