STM vs Custer: Hype or Reality?

There is a lot of banter out there on the matchup this Friday at the Custer Armory. I guess all of this is not too surprising given that Custer is coming in as LNI champs and a very solid performance at the Mike Miller Classic.

There is also no doubt that the Cats are very athletic, particularly guard Luke Roddy, and that the Cats are very well coached.

However, in recent years the Cavs have owned the Black Hills Conference. In fact, the current poll question asks the last time that STM lost in the BHC. The answer to the question is embedded on our site in one of the posts, but I digress. Bottom line, recent history suggests the Cats will struggle against the Cavs.

If one digs a little deeper though there is reason for Cat fans to be optimistic. Two years ago the Cav JV sustained their only loss to the Cats JV team. However, current STM starter Garet Tucker (6'8") was wearing purple and yellow that night, not blue and black.

Is Tucker what Jackalope calls a "Difference Maker"? Probably not, but to extract 6'8" from the Cats and give it to the Cavs is a big change in height, particularly when the Cavs already have a significant height advantage.

Further add K.J. Rech and Eric Hensch to the Cav JV team from two years ago and the Cats challenges become ever clearer: height and depth.

Some have predicted both teams scoring in the 70's but I would be shocked if that happened. Look for this one to be a low scoring affair.

So I ask the question, is the talked about closeness of this game more hype or reality?
