    GO CAVS!!

The St. Thomas More girls have been looking like a team this year.  They are, as I write this, undefeated.  But more importantly, they are all, it appears, playing the roles that suit them best.  That wasn't always the case in years past, so it is nice to see the girls gel and play off their own respective strengths.

Caitlin Duffy has always been a consistently strong shooter, and it is vital for the team's success that she be out there on the court doing just that, shooting.  Maddie Merriam holds her own in the shooting department, as well.  She doesn't have the height, but she can shoot a three point shot and she's quick on defense.  Madison Kirsch also does a nice job picking that right shot.  Brianna Arity is back in action after an injury, and she does a nice job contributing under the basket.  Alexis Swedlund, as an 8th grader, has contributed nicely as a strong shooter for the Lady Cavs.

Defense is always tough to find in both boys and girls basketball.  Everyone wants to be the shooter and not always do the "dirty work," a/ka defense.   Katie Freidel does well at concentrating on playing defense for STM.  She's much stronger fighting for position and pestering a ball handler than she is shooting.  Tessa Pesicka can be a force underneath on defense, and when she positions herself well, she can shoot there, too.  One person I'm surprised to see play strong under the basket is Moira Duffy.  You usually don't find a Duffy playing that position, as the three point shot seems to be their specialty, but it's a position that fits her well and she does a nice job there.

The STM Lady Cavs appear to be on their way to a very successful season.  Go Cavs!!
