Augustana Baseball: Professional scouts visit Ronken Field on Tuesday

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Professional baseball scouts visited Ronken Field Home of Karras Park on Tuesday to get a glimpse of Viking baseball players that might draw interest in June’s Major League baseball amateur draft.

Head coach Tim Huber said there were scouts from the Baltimore Orioles, San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Milwaukee Brewers and the MLB Scouting Bureau on hand to watch the Vikings in a controlled environment.

As a part of the scout day, Viking players ran 60-yard dashes, took batting practice, took infield and outfield, and played in a live intrasquad scrimmage.

Today was the second scout day in the history of Augustana baseball.

Following the 2012 season, former Viking pitcher Derek Hansen was selected with the 796th pick in the 25th round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft. Hansen was the 10th player from Augustana to sign with a professional team in school history.

Augustana compiled its third-straight 30-win season in 2012, finishing 32-21. The Vikings tied for fourth in the NSIC with a conference mark of 22-12.
