DSU Football: Howard standout signs letter-of-intent to join Trojan Football

HOWARD, S.D.- Dakota State University head football coach is proud to announce the local signing of Cole Potter to join the Trojan Football team this coming fall. He will graduate from Howard High School this spring.

Potter had a stellar football career at Howard High School. He was one of the integral members of the Tigers' football team, under the guidance of DSU alum Pat Ruml, which advanced to the State '9AA' Football Championships game last November.

At 6-foot-1-inch and 190 pounds, Potter played middle linebacker and running back for the Tigers. Potter was selected to All-State linebacker in 2012. He was named to Big East and Corn Belt All-Conference teams twice (2011 and 2012).

In 2012, Potter rushed 70 times for 979 yards with 16 touchdowns. He averaged 14 yards per rush for the Tigers. As a linebacker, he produced 67 tackles, four quarterback sacks and recovered a fumble twice during the season.

During his football career at Howard High School, Potter amassed a total of 145 rushes for 1744 yards. He recorded 23 touchdowns and averaged 10.2 yards per rush. On the defensive side, Potter accumulated a total of 220 tackles, eight quarterback sacks, and recorded an interception. He had six fumble recoveries.

"Cole is a multi-sport athlete who plays basketball, but also excels in rodeo," said Anderson. "He is a tough kid from a well-rounded family, and I look for Cole to make a big impact on our defense. We are very excited to get such a great young man and an exceptional football player in our program."

Cole is the son of Mark and Donita Potter of Winfred, S.D. His sister Cassie currently attends Dakota State University. He is undecided in a major at this point, but leaning toward a Business degree.
