    DSU Football: Hertz and Liles participate in 2013 USA Freedom Bowl All-Star game

    MADISON, S.D. – Two Dakota State University football seniors participated in the 2013 USA Freedom Bowl All-Star game on Jan. 21 in Virginia Beach, Va.  The All-Star game, which was held at the Virginia beach SportsPlex, featured athletes from Football Championship Series (FCS), NCAA Division II, III and NAIA levels.  They divided the athletes into two teams called Admirals and Generals.

    Hertz was on the Admirals team.  He received the defensive most valuable player for his squad, recording 12 tackles, 1 pass deflection and 2 forced fumbles.  Liles played on the Generals team.

    Craig is the son of Kevin and Marcie Hertz of Ocheyedan, Iowa.  He is majoring in Physical Education at Dakota State.

    Hertz was selected to DSU's team defensive most valuable player.  He was named to Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) first-team All-Conference.  He produced 117 tackles in 2012 - the third most tackles in a single season in Trojan Football record book.  During his career at DSU, he amassed a total of 302 tackles (120 unassisted, 182 assists). 

    Hertz will be joining the DSU Football coaching staff to assist the outside linebackers next season.  He is the seventh former athlete to assist the football coaching staff under head coach Josh Anderson.  The last to help as assistant coaches were Brandon Stahl, Joe Whealy, Logan Denning, Randall Shannon, Matt Storm and Tom Snell.

    Eric is the son of Eric Liles, Sr. and Maria Hodge of Queen Creek, Ariz.  He is studying Exercise Science major at DSU. 

    Liles was chosen to the A.I.I. All-Conference Honorable Mention.  He was named to the Trojans' Hardest Hitter award.  Liles was selected to Beyond Sports Network All-American Preseason team.  He recorded a new DSU school record of 127 tackles in a single season (2012).  He had accumulated a total of 395 tackles (141 unassisted, 254 assists) during his four-year career at Dakota State.
