Augustana Baseball: Hewes named to Daktronics All-America Team

MARSHALL, Minn. – Augustana senior Nate Hewes has been named to the Daktronics All-America third team as voted on by members of the NCAA Division II College Sports Information Directors of America.

The All-America team is sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. Daktronics has sponsored the baseball All-America program since 2007.

Hewes, a native of Stillwater, Minn., finished the season batting .373 with 60 hits, including 13 doubles, one triple and a team-high eight home runs. He drove in 50 runs, stole 11 bases and compiled a .615 slugging percentage and a .450 on-base percentage during his senior campaign. Hewes played in 51 games this season, making 49 starts, including 20 in center field, 17 at shortstop, 11 at second base and one at third base. He recorded a .908 fielding percentage while picking up 59 putouts and 50 assists in the field.

Hewes had two or more hits in a game 17 times this season and drove in two or more runs 13 times. He finishes his career ranked sixth all-time at Augustana in games played (191), games started (184), most at bats (596), runs scored (140), stolen bases (37) and hits (186). Hewes ranks seventh all-time in career home runs (20), total bases (287), while ranking eighth in doubles (39) and 10th in RBI (111).

Hewes is the fourth player in Augustana baseball history to earn Daktronics All-America honors. Nate Baumann was named Daktronics All-America second team in 2010 and third team in 2011. Deryk Marks was a second team selection in 2010 and Derek Hansen was named to the third team in 2012.

Other postseason honors for Hewes in 2013 include All-NSIC First Team, Daktronics All-Central Region First Team Rawlings/ABCA All-Central Region Second Team.

Augustana finished the 2013 season with a school record 38 wins, finishing 38-18, marking its fourth straight season of 30-plus wins. The Vikings posted a 21-7 record in NSIC play, which was good for a third place finish.
