Dan Maciejczak holds a place in the Rapid City Sports Hall of Fame because of the impact he has had (and continues to make) on area football. Majic’s football life started as a standout lineman for Douglas High School, continued at Chadron State where he earned All-America honors, moved into the professional ranks as player and coach, and has now brought him full circle to his current position as head coach at Douglas.
Maciejczak may be the best offensive lineman to prep in the Black Hills since former Nebraska Cornhusker great Randy Schleusner controlled the line of scrimmage for the Stevens Raiders. As a Douglas Patriot, Maciejczak twice earned all-conference honors and was named Class AA 1st Team all-State in 1990.
At the collegiate level playing for Chadron State in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, he was named all-conference three times. Maciejczak also earned NAIA all-America honors each of his last three varsity seasons.
Maciejczak’s success at Chadron State earned him training camp contracts with the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Bucs. After three years playing professional football in the AFL, he launched a coaching career that continues today.
Maciejczak coached the Wyoming Cavalry in the Indoor Football League for six years. The Cavalry compiled a 60-27 overall record during his tenure, and played in four IFL championship games.
Maciejczak left professional football to focus on coaching at the high school level at his alma-mater, where he’s presently leading resurgence in the Patriots football program.
