BHSU Rodeo: Yellow Jackets cap off fall season, look to carry momentum into Spring

FARGO, N.D. - The men's and women's Yellow Jacket rodeo teams finished their fall rodeo season off at the 2013 Bison Stampede at host school, North Dakota State University's Equine Center on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 18-19, 2013.

The 48th Annual Bison Stampede included competition from 20 other university from six different states.

BHSU sophomore, Bille Jo Miller (Menoken, N.D.) traveled back to her home state and led the team after winning the women's all-around by five points after scoring 165 points.  With Miller's win, the women's team has won the all-around at four-of-five rodeos this fall - showing how talented and deep the squad is as they look towards the spring season.

Miller finished tied for first in goat tying with NDSU's Tracy Ellig, with a score of 13.7.  Miller then turned in the seventh fastest time in barrel racing while posting a 36.27.  Head coach, Glenn Lammers, was pleased to see Miller step-up to provide yet another weapon for the team heading into the off-season.

"I was pleased with Billie Jo's effort in both her events.  I know she'll work hard during the off season because she's definitely motivated to make a run for the CNFR in the spring," Lammers said.

Other top BHSU women's finishers were Samantha Jorgenson in team roping (header) with a time of 7.8, good for sixth-place.

This rodeo marked the halfway point before the student-athletes make their push in the spring to qualify for the College National Finals Rodeo come June of next year.

The men's team had one of their better performances as a team after a fourth-place finish, which included a second-place run in steer wrestling (10.8) by River Voigt (Killdeer, N.D.), along with team roping headers who tied for second in Ty Krantz (Mitchell, S.D.) and Wyatt Treeby (Hecla, S.D.).

Tanner Miller's team roping (heeler) score of 5.6 was good for a fourth-place finish on the night.  Bull rider, Riley Blankenship (Killdeer, N.D.) finished in fourth after scoring a 71.0.  Lammers was pleased to finish the fall on the right note as he and is team will continue to prepare in the off-season.

"Several of our team members finished the fall season strong and made a move in the regional standings. We plan to work hard in practice during the winter months to prepare for the second-half of our season," Lammers said.

After the fall season, the BHSU women's team sits in second-place in the Great Plains Region standings with 1,412 points and the men sit in fifth with 1,595 points.  For the complete team and individual standings, CLICK HERE
