SPEARFISH, S.D. – Second baseman for the Yellow Jackets softball team, Katie Campo exploded for two homeruns and five RBIs in Wednesday afternoon's doubleheader matchup versus Dickinson State.

While the Jackets picked up their second victory of the year in game one, 6-5, DSU managed to hold on towards the end of the second game to take the victory by a score of 8-5.

    GAME 1

With the Jackets down by two runs in the last half of the seventh inning of the first game, Campo came through with two runners on for the 3-run homer to dead center for the victory in walk-off fashion.

Prior to the exciting finish that saw eight total runs scored combined in the final two innings, DSU and the Yellow Jackets were in a pitching dual during the first five innings.  DSU took the early lead in the first after a 1B Lindsey Sullivan hit a two RBI single to right field.

An inning later, the Jackets got on board after C Erica Everson scored from third when Savanah Eckhardtgrounded out to second.  In the sixth inning, DSU's Sullivan again came up big for her team with a 3-run homerun.

Campo answered back in the bottom of the sixth with a double to right center that scored SS Ryan Cook.  Everson followed Campo's lead with a single to left field that drove home 1B Rebecca Green

    GAME 2

Both teams left off where they finished from game one as 12 runs were scored in the first five innings of the second game of the day.  DSU again struck first after they took a 3-1 lead after two innings.

DSU scored when SS Alex Vargas hit an RBI double and later scored in the inning when RF Briana Grayson reached on a fielder's choice.  In the second, Rebecca Lopez reached on a fielder's choice and 2B Kailey Olcott scored.

Yellow Jacket C Erica Everson then scored after a throwing error when DH Savanah Eckhardt reached on a fielder's choice to get on the board.

After DSU scored two more runs in the third, the Jackets responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to close DSU's lead to 5-4.  1B Rebecca Green hit a two run homer for the Yellow Jackets, which was then followed by the third deep ball of the day when 2B Katie Campo hit a solo homerun to close the inning.

Campo now leads the Jackets with four homeruns and 19 RBIs on the season.

Green later had an RBI double in the fourth inning, before DSU scored runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to secure the three run victory.  DSU used two pitchers on the day with Regan Lawrence picking up the win pitching five innings with just one earned run.  Tiffany Morgan pitched two innings and was charged with three earned runs on four hits.
