Hope Menning (Corsica) signs with Tigers

MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball coach Jason Christensen is getting a head start on recruiting for the 2015-16 season this summer.

Christensen, who already announced that Woonsocket’s Morgan Selland will join the Tigers starting in 2015, added one more name to DWU’s future roster Wednesday when Hope Menning signed with the Tigers.

Menning, who will be a senior at Corsica High School this fall, has already earned four varsity letters for the Corsica/Stickney basketball team. She averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and three assists per game as a junior while shooting 46 percent from long range and 56 percent from the field. Menning a 5-foot-9 guard, earned all-conference second team honors and led the team in points scored, rebounds and free-throw percentage.

Menning, whose older brother, Kris, will be a senior for the Tiger men this fall, earned all-conference first team honors as a sophomore and third-team accolades as a freshman. She led the team in scoring and free-throw percentage as a sophomore.

“Along with her success on the court, Hope also demonstrates the character and determination associated with her success in the classroom,” Christensen said. “She adds a local flavor to our roster, and we’re excited to welcome her to the Tiger family.”

DWU starts the 2014-15 season Oct. 31 at the Doane Classic in Crete, Neb. The Tigers’ first home contest is Nov. 7 against the University of Jamestown.
