    Augustana Women's Tennis: Vikings named All-Academic Team by ITA; five players honored

    SKILLMAN, N.J. – For a second year in a row, the Augustana women's tennis team was honored with the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award.  

    The Vikings had five players named ITA Scholar-Athletes in Jenna Helleberg, Katie Jesperson, Meredith Lawrence, Jessica Spalding, and Heather Sullivan.

    In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, have a grade point average (GPA) of at least a 3.5, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.

    The ITA All-Academic Team is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or higher. All eligible student-athletes must compete in one-or-more varsity matches.

    Augustana finished a remarkable 2014 season, 25-2 overall and 11-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, taking home its fifth straight NSIC Championship. The Vikings have gone undefeated in each of the past five NSIC regular seasons, which includes winning the past four NSIC Tournament Championships.

    Jesperson was selected in 2013 and 2014 as NSIC Player of the Year, as well as earned NSIC Singles All-Conference First-Team honors.

    Marc Kurtz picked up the NSIC Coach of the Year award for a second straight year. Now entering his seventh season has head coach, Kurtz has compiled a 119-27 career record, which includes a 58-3 mark in the NSIC.
