    NSU Women's Basketball: Wolves win with Mutchler's (Newell) hot hand

    Aberdeen, S.D. – The Northern State University women's basketball recorded their ninth straight double-digit victory in a 61-49 win over Minot State University. The Wolves improve to 9-0 on the year and 3-0 in Northern Sun play.
    The Beavers proved to be the first test for the Wolves the season, as Northern shot only 37.7 percent from the floor. It was an all-around team effort for the Wolves as they tallied 17 assists, eight steals, and 42 rebounds. The two team matched up equal with 26 defensive rebounds apiece, however the Wolves pulled away with 16 offensive boards for 14 second chance points. Northern has out-rebounded their opponents in all nine games this season.
    Megan Mutchler was hot again for NSU, leading the team with 16 points, as she was 7-for-11 from the floor. Megan added seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Paige Waytashekrecorded a season high 15 points, knocking down four decisive long range balls and three free-throws. Waytashek added four assists and one steal, as she was the spark for the Wolves back and forth battles in the second half.
    Sadie Stotesbery notched ten in the win, with two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Tying her career high, Rachel Krogman racked up 17 rebounds against a very physical Beaver line. Krogman notched eight points, two assists, and one steal. Kara Hofschild came off the bench for the Wolves tallying eight points and a game leading five assists. Lauren Deadrick added four points in the win, playing a total of eight minutes.
    The Wolves, alongside St. Cloud State and University of Sioux Falls are the three un-beaten teams in the league. Northern sits atop both the North Division and Conference standings heading into the third week of NSIC play. The women travel for the first time since November 15th, to take on Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. Game times are set for 6 p.m. Friday, against the Bulldogs, and 4 p.m. Saturday, versus the Huskies.
