BHSU Men's Basketball: Henry Hits Game-Winner in OT

DENVER – In one of the most exciting games of the year, senior Myles Henry hit the game winning shot as time expired for an 80-78 double overtime victory over Regis.

Henry's heroics were set up when he first sank a pair of free throws to send the game into overtime with .3 seconds remaining. His game winner came as he received a pass from Wyatt Krogman on the left wing, drove towards the lane and pushed in the mid-range basket.

Long before the second overtime period, down four points with 57 seconds remaining in regulation, Henry stepped up to the free throw line and sank both shots to make the score 61-59.

The Yellow Jackets (4-8, 2-4 RMAC) then sent Kevin Marshall to the free throw line for the Rangers (3-6, 1-4 RMAC) with 41 seconds on the scoreboard. Marshall missed the front end of a one-and-one giving the Green and Gold an opportunity to tie the game.

Henry drove the lane but missed the layup. On the ensuing rebound, Ryan was knocked to the ground with a foul called. He hit one-of-two free throws.

The Yellow Jackets put a full-court press on that caused a small melee as the Rangers had problems getting the ball across the half court line. Just before a 10-second call would have happened, Regis crossed the line where a foul was quickly placed on Roberto Reyes with 4.4 seconds left.

Reyes sank both free throws for the 63-60 lead. Up three points, the Rangers placed a foul on Bisgaard. Bisgaard sank the first free throw. On the second free throw, where he was going to miss on purpose, there was a lane violation giving Regis the ball with 1.1 seconds.

On the deep inbounds pass, Henry leaped up to intercept the pass. In the process he was fouled with .3 seconds remaining, sending him to the free throw line.

Henry calmly sank both free throws to send the game into overtime with a 63-63 score.

In the extra period the Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 67-63 lead thanks to a Brody Brisk and Yoshio Allenlayup. Black Hills State also led 71-65 with 2:20 remaining before Bryan Siefker sank back-to-back 3-point baskets to knot the game at 71-all.

Each team had a chance at the go-ahead basket but neither could convert sending the game into double overtime. In the second overtime period, Regis grabbed the lead with a four-point advantage before Allen hit a layup followed by a Ryan jumper in the paint to knot the game at 78-all.

After Ryan stole an inbounds pass, that set up the opportunity for the Yellow Jackets to snag the lead, and the victory. Head coach Jeff Trumbauer called a time out with 10.1 seconds remaining to draw up the final play.

Henry and Allen each led the way for the Yellow Jackets with 17 points while Brody Brisk had 14 and Ryan added 12. The Yellow Jackets withstood a scorching field goal percentage of 56.9 percent from Regis, led by 20 points from Dexter Sienko.

Allen completed the double-double with 12 rebounds as part of the Yellow Jackets 36 on the evening. Krogman, who was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line also dished a team-best five assists.

Black Hills State returns to the hardwood in 2015 with a 7:30 p.m. tip against Adams State in the Young Center.
