2012 was quite a year here in Parkston, and as the balls drops closer and closer to 2013 as I type I wonder what it has in store for all of us. The Parkston GBB team is one of the shining moments of 2012. Led by one of the greatest to ever wear a Lady Trojan uniform, Marie Malloy, they won nail biter after nail biter to advance to the State Championship Game. I can close my eyes and...
More than a week has passed, but fans here in Parkston are still left with the question "What might have been?" Many can close their eyes and remember the feeling in the pit of their stomach on March 10th, 2012. Some cried. Some sat speechless. Some bowing their heads to ask for the help of a higher power. All knowing the chance to validate an almost 35 year dynasty laid holding her knee on the...
The town of Salem hasn't been kind to Parkston Girls Basketball in recent years. Two straight losses to Tri-Valley in the Region Championship had the Parkston fans on edge before the tip last night. Facing a talented West Central team the Parkston Lady Trojans knew they would have their hands full. The game started at break neck speed and the nerves for both teams was evident. Turnovers...
Here is a link to a video of the last second shot by Logan Wagner the other night to beat #1 Wagner....watch the Ptown crowd go BONKERS!!!! CLICK HERE TO VIEW VIDEO I will be in Salem tonight for the "Trojan War" and will give a recap when I get home.
We decided to travel down to Wagner last night to catch the District 10A GBB Championship between Wagner and Parkston. A cant miss game this time of the year and no one in the gym was disappointed. Wagner undefeated and ranked number 1 see sawed back and forth all first half with the Lady Trojans never able to burst a big lead and blow the game open. Parkston would storm back each moment ...
After more than two years of scoreless games and disappointing football seasons the Parkston Trojans have shown signs of life here in 2011. Starting out 0-2 and with hopes fading fast the Trojans have responded by going 3-1 in their last 4 games and scoring more points in one game, a 51-0 victory over St Francis, then they had the previous 2 years combined. There are still vast impr...
Many thought the Hobo was gone off to sing that Hobo song riding the rails and stealing his meals always behind the shadiest deals but now he is back in the world of the buzzard blogging from the basement of his mother destined to write about sports from the Dak his grammar is bad so cut him some slack
I am working with the crack Buzzard IT department to allow me to give live updates and play-by-play from the 3 Class Shootout. Stay tuned for details! Until then, here is the schedule and rosters. 2:00 - “AA” Girls vs “A” Girls3:45 - “B” Girls vs Winner of first game5:15 - “AA” Boys vs “A” BoysDUNK CONTEST afte...
The matchups are set as we glide into Championship Saturday here in South Dakota. Three teams are making return trips to the Championship game, STM White River SF OG, with White River and OG try to defend their state titles. With all the buzzer beaters and barn burners so far in these State Tournaments it will take more than blood, sweat and tears to hold that trophy high after the final bu...
A couple unseen chinks in the chain and the Hobo didnt get to make his yearly pilgrimage to the State Tourney this year. Instead I'm stuck at home. Don't feel one bit sorry folks, because stuck at home this time of year is just what the Doctor ordered! With the NCAA Tourney now showing every game on TV and my local cable provider broadcasting all 3 State Tournaments there...
After a highly competitive first half which saw Chester leading Wagner 30-23 we all buckled in awaiting a memorable second half. It was memorable alright, but for all the wrong reasons. Wagner is held to 9 points in the second half, up until scrub time when they got a bucket, and lose big to Chester 64-34. Wagner took control early in the game pounding the ball into Senior Forward Brett K...
With Regions starting only hours from now the Hobo has a few thoughts on the matchups and outcomes. 1) 5 boys programs will be trying to join their fellow female counterparts in the State Tourney. With STM more than likely getting the 1st seed in both Tourneys. 2) Someone fill in the blank for me here. Wagner will try to make their first State Boys Basketball Tourney s...
You know a Hobo is always looking for a handout, but what I need right now is some of your basketball knowledge. Help me answer these 5 questions and clear up some of the mystery in Class A. 1) Will this be Custer's last stand for Larry Legend? 2) Will Winner be challenged in Districts or Regions? 3) Will MCM avenge a regular season los...
The Parkston Lady Trojans stopped upset minded Bon Homme here in Parkston 57-46 to claim the District 10A Championship. This is Parkston's second straight District Championship and will move on to play Tri-Valley in a rematch of last years Region Championship won by Tri-Valley. Bon Homme was able to slow down Parkston's star Junior Marie Malloy, but it was her surrounding cast that stepped ...
This past month has been another whirlwind tour for the Hobo. A family vacation sent me to the beautiful Islands of Oahu and Maui for nearly two weeks, Everyday waking up in paradise is the same thing. 80 degrees, little wind and the smell of the ocean is enough to beat the homesick blues away from any mind. My adventure in Hawaii will live with me forever and I hope to post a few pics ...
I have been out of pocket for three weeks. Only now am getting back into the swing of things. Given my absence I am going to kick off a little feature called "A Fist Full of Questions." I have questions, you give me the answers. Here goes: Is Viborg-Hurley ready for prime time or are they a Class B pretender? Will the Bulldogs three-peat (clearly ...
I missed you friends of the feathered! A family Vacation to Hawaii has kept me away from SD hoops for the past couple weeks, so im out of the loop. On the other hand I have a July tan in early February and stories to last a lifetime. Im glad to be back in the great state of the land, and look forward to this weekends DWU Tiger Classic in Mitchell. I will post a few pics from the journey...
After 12 straight hours in the Palace and a day to recover im still sore from sitting in those bleachers, but it was all worth it. All the games came down to the 4th quarter with a couple ending in game winning shots. The Hobo was lucky enough to get some good footage. It was good seeing all of my old and new friends at the Corn Palace. Good Luck to all of you through the rest of the se...
Parkston notched their first victory on the season tonight. Beating Andes Central 55-31. The Trojans led by an astounding 32-6 margain at the half. Taylor Schoenfelder had 22 and Parker VanZee added 12 for Parkston. This is the first Parkston win I've seen in person since Dave "Trojan Horse the 2nd" Maxwell led us to a District Championship victory over Wagner two years ago. The win t...

Again this year the Hobo will be stuck to his seat at the Corn Palace for the entire Hanson Classic. I will post scores and updates as I can and try to keep everyone not able to go to the games in the mix. You can also now follow me on Twitter @hutchhobo for Hanson Classic tweetdates and a few laughs. I hope to see a few of you at the Palace so dont be afraid to come introduce yourself. ...
In a battle of undefeated teams 1# Parkston bested 4# Wagner 51-42 in Parkston tonight. Parkston took control from the start ending the 1st quarter up 18-6 and looked ready to blow the game open, but missed free throws and Wagner's spectacular Junior Devon Brecke wouldnt let it happen. Brecke carried Wagner through the first half, scoring 13 of their 21 points, trying to match a balanced Pa...
Through the wind, snow and ice of a blizzard I trekked up to Mitchell Thursday to catch an event unscene before in South Dakota. The Mike Miller Classic gave basketball fans a chance to see talent you only witness on one of the ESPN Networks. Matching up 5 teams from across the nation vs teams from inside the state in a two day schedule of games it was a classic in all sense of the word. Scanni...
Hey fellow birds of prey the Hobo is back from my vacation on the Wabash Cannonball and ready to dig into another year of South Dakota Boy's Basketball. A big thanks goes out to Mr. Pink who covered for me over the summer and into the fall as I jumped from rail car to rail car hoping that the next leap was the leap home. It's been jsut about 9 months since the last buzzer sounded on the ...
I double teamed a handcar with a fellow drifter down to Armour tonight to check out Burnell Glanzer and his Tripp-Delmont/Armour Nighthawks, that still seems so weird to say!!, host my Parkston Trojans. I took two things away from the game tonight 1) TDA is a force to be reckoned with in Class B and 2) The Trojans still have a long way to go.... Parkston Sophomore Tanner Weber started the...
