    Season Preview

Coach Foss gave SDSB the following season preview information:

What is your team outlook for 2011-2012?

We are going to be fairly young this year, but we do have four seniors on the team who we will look to for leadership.  We have a very good crop of young players coming up and a big part of our season will depend on how they develop to the high school level. Just like any other season it is our goal to win and win now.  Philip has not won a district title since 1979 and we want to be the team that ends that drought.  If we play together as a team and improve with each game we feel like that’s something we can do.

Which of your players do you expect to have the most "impact" this year?

Austin O’Dea is our only senior returning who saw significant time last year at the varsity level.  He will be counted on to be our floor leader.  He is also one of our best defenders so it will often times fall to him to guard the other teams best player.

Gunner Hook is a junior who returns for his third year of varsity basketball.  He is our big center and because he has the most experience of any of our players we will look to him to be a steady and strong part of our lineup

Our 3 other seniors on the team, Cody Reder, Colter Cvach, and Kyle Schulz, all saw limited time at the varsity level last year and we will need each one of them to step up in their own way. They will all play big roles on our team this season.

Junior Thomas Doolittle and freshman Nelson Holman will both be important for us at the guard position.  Junior Tate DeJong is working his way back from an ankle issue and will also be a big part of our team.

Which teams will be your toughest competition?

White River is of course the favorite in our region.  They had a great team that took 2nd last year, and they are only going to get better this season.

In our district we expect Wall to be our toughest competition again this year.  They are our biggest rival and because they won it last year the rest of us will have to go through them.

Which new players do you anticipate on your 2011-2012 roster?

New players to our varsity roster will be

    Chaney Burns 5'7 G JR
    Paul Guptill 6'0 F FR
    Tristen Rush 6'0 F FR
    Nelson Holman 5'6 G FR
    Gavin Brucklacher 5'11 G SO
    Wyatt Schaack 6'2 F/C SO

***The Rest were listed on the varsity roster last season. They are:

    Cody Reder 5'11 F SR*
    Austin O'Dea 5'11 G SR*
    Colter Cvach 6'2 F SR*
    Gunner Hook 6'5 C JR*
    Thomas Doolittle 5'9 G JR
    Tate DeJong 6'1 F JR
    Cassidy Schnabel 6'0 F JR
    Kyle Schulz 6'3 F/C SR
    Quade Slovek 6'0 F JR
