LINCOLN, Neb. - The Black Hills State University rodeo teams swept the Cornhusker Stampede this weekend with the men's and women's teams earning the championships in Lincoln, Nebraska.
For the women, it is the sixth team win of the year while the men claim their first rodeo championship of the season. The victories came as Carlee Johnston won the women's all-around title and Lane Rossow garnering the men's all-around title.
Rossow was the champion in tie-down roping with a 25.3 over two to aid in his roping championship. Johnston placed second in goat-tying to aid in her all-around title. Johnston tallied a 14.5 on two. Johnston also placed second in team roping with a 22.3 on two.
Event titles went to Samantha Jorgenson in the breakaway ash she totaled a 5.7 over two with Kallie Carey placing second with a 7.6 on tow and Jaydn Holenbeck with a 2.8 on one in the event.
The Yellow Jackets also claimed the team roping title as the combination of Ava Ranking and Trey Huber tallied a 20.9 on two runs. With Johnston placing second, Collin Palmer placed fourth with a 24.5 on two.
With Rossow claiming the tie-down roping, Lee Sivertson tallied a 3.9 on two runs to place fifth.
Yellow Jacket success also came in the steer wrestling with Carson Johnston placing third with a 16.4 on two and Rossow placing sixth with a 19.2 on two.
In the goat tying after Carlee Johnston's second place finish, Cedar Jandreau and Katie Lensegrav each tied for fourth with a 14.9 over two.
The final placing for the Yellow Jackets came in the barrel racing with Makeesha Geiger placing sixth with a 31.41 over two runs.
The Great Plains leading women along with the second-half rising men's team hosts the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede Friday and Saturday at Seven Down Arenas. Friday is slated for a 7 p.m. while Saturday has 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. start times.
