SD Mines MBB: Aussie Inks with Rockers

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men’s basketball program is proud to announce the signing of another international athlete with the addition of Jordan O’Leary to the Hardrocker Family for the 2017-18 season.

O’Leary is a 6-foot, 161-pound, point guard from Geelong, Victoria in Australia. He comes to Rapid City after previously playing for his prep school, The Geelong College. As a senior for Geelong College, O’Leary was the captain of the hoops team, averaging 22 points, six rebounds and five assists per game. He was also voted the Team MVP 2014-2016.

“Jordan is a strong scoring guard that can run the point but can also score in bunches,” said Hardrocker basketball head coach Jason Henry. “He is a guy that doesn’t mind mixing it up as his stats indicate in rebounding and hustle plays.”

O’Leary helped his team earn the 2016 BigV League Men’s Division II Championship; was selected to the All-Star 5 Team; received the Rising Star Award; earned BigV 2017 State of Origin All-Star Team honors; and made “Blue Carpet” honors three times during his senior season for overall game performance stats.

“I am excited to join the Hardrocker Family and to experience a new higher and tougher level of basketball,” O’Leary said. “After speaking with Coach Henry about the team academic program at SD Mines,  I feel that this combination of studies and sports will be a great challenge and allow me to make a contribution to the Hardrocker Family.”

While attending SD Mines, O’Leary plans to pursue a degree in Computer Engineering.

“We are ecstatic that Jordan and Australian family have decided to join the Hardrocker Family,” Henry added.

Founded in 1885, the SD Mines is a science and engineering research university, offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. SD Mines offers challenging curriculum, personal attention, and great internships at a price families can afford.
