    USD FB: Yotes, Jacks one of six top-25 matchups

    VERMILLION, S.D.—After seven weeks inside the top 10, the South Dakota Coyotes (7-3, 4-3 MVFC) will be ranked No. 16 heading into this weekend’s rivalry matchup with South Dakota State (8-2, 5-2). The Jackrabbits stayed at No. 5 following their overtime win against Illinois State. USD and SDSU will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday inside a sold out DakotaDome in one of six matchups of top-25 teams. 

    South Dakota and South Dakota State are meeting for the 112th time in a rivalry that dates back to 1889. The Jacks have won the last eight meetings to take their first lead in the series 53-51-7. The Coyotes last win in the series in Vermillion came in 1997 (0-5 since). 

    South Dakota is competing in its sixth game this season of top-25 teams. The Coyotes are 3-2 against ranked competition including a 2-1 mark against top-10 foes. 

    The Missouri Valley Football Conference has five teams ranked in the top 25 with UNI just outside at No. 26. In addition to USD and SDSU, North Dakota State is No. 6, Western Illinois is No. 10 and Illinois State is No. 25.

    The six top-25 matchups this week include: 

    #1 James Madison at #15 Elon

    #5 South Dakota State at #6 South Dakota

    #6 North Dakota State at #25 Illinois State 

    #24 Furman at #13 Samford 

    #23 Northern Arizona at #18 Southern Utah 

    #22 Monmouth at #21 Kennesaw State
