BHSU WBB: Yellow Jackets Host Cougars

SPEARFISH, S.D. - The Black Hills State University women's basketball team returns home after a five-game road stretch to host Colorado Christian University on Saturday, February 10. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m.

    • The two teams meet for the second time this season on the hardwood in Spearfish, S.D. The last time these two teams met was on December 9, 2017, when the Yellow Jackets fell to the Cougars, 74-68.
    • Jordan Baer leads the Cougars offense and defense with a 12.2 points per game average and 7.6 rebounds per game average in 21 games played.
    • The Cougars rank 11th in the conference with a 4-12 RMAC record and a 6-15 overall record with five games remaining on the season.

    • Black Hills State University head coach Mark Nore enters his 16th season with the Yellow Jackets and owns a 279-181 record. He is the all-time wins leader for the Yellow Jacket basketball team.
    • Corey Laster enters his second year as the Cougars head coach. He started at Taylor University, his alma mater, where he was the all-time leading scorer and rebounder, and is a member of the Taylor University Hall of Fame since 2010. Laster spent four seasons at UCCS before taking over at CCU in 2015.

The Yellow Jackets defeated South Dakota Mines on Tuesday, February 6, to end a five-game road stretch by a score of 59-55.

Rachel Erickson led the way with 14 points, while Julia Seamans was right behind with 12. Erickson went 5-of-10 from the floor, 3-of-7 from the three-point range, and 1-of-2 from the line in 28 minutes of action. Black Hills State shot 46.5 percent from the field, a season best 52.9 percent from beyond the arc, and 58.8 percent from the line.

On defense, Keely Bertram tied her career and season-high rebounds with 13, with four of them offensively.

The Yellow Jackets currently sit in sixth place after dropping two games this past weekend to MSU Denver and UCCS. With four games remaining in the season, the Green and Gold are looking to make their fourth RMAC Tournament appearance since joining in 2012. Black Hills State is 3-3 in postseason RMAC appearances. It finished runner-up in 2013-14, going 3-1 in the tournament falling to Colorado Mesa in the Championship game. In 2014-15 and 2015-16, BHSU fell in the first round.

Following the weekend, the Yellow Jackets host Colorado Mesa on Saturday, February 17, for their final home game of the season before hitting the road to close out the regular season at Chadron State and Regis on February 23 and 24. Tipoff for Saturday is scheduled for 4 p.m.
