BHSU WBB: Yellow Jackets fall to Angelo State in NCAA First Round

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Black Hills State women's basketball team fell in the NCAA Division II NCAA Tournament First Round to Angelo State University, 87-75, on Friday evening. The Yellow Jackets wrapped up a 24-8 season in which they made it to the RMAC Championship Game and earned an at-large bid to the national tournament.

Julia Seamans had 18 points to lead the way for the Yellow Jackets (24-8). Keely Bertram recorded 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds, while Danielle Noble had 10 points and six boards.

Julia Seamans opened the scoring draining a three-pointer, and less than a minute later, she knocked down another one to put the Yellow Jackets up, 6-3, with 8:07 left in the first. At the first media timeout, with 4:59 to play in the opening quarter, BHSU led, 15-10. However, Angelo State (23-6) used a 14-5 run to take a 24-20 lead at the end of the first period of play.

The Belles pushed their lead out to as many as 13 points in the second quarter, but an 8-0 run got the Green and Gold back into things. Danielle Noble scored five of the points, putting one in while in the paint, and then knocking down a trey on the next possession. The Yellow Jackets entered the locker room trailing ASU, 41-34.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half with a 5-0 run to get within two, 41-39, with 9:04 to play in the third. With 5:02 left in the period, and the score, 47-43, in favor of the Belles, Noble hit her second three of the night, to bring BHSU within one. However, Angelo State responded with a 9-0 run to go back up by 10 points. ASU led by eight, 58-50, at the end of the third quarter.

The Belles were able to keep BHSU at arms' length in the fourth quarter, maintaining at least a seven point lead throughout the period. The Yellow Jackets were unable to get enough stops on the defensive end to make a dent in the deficit, and ultimately fell, 87-75.
BHSU shot 43.1 percent from the field (25-for-58), while ASU was 50.9 percent from the floor (27-for-53). The Yellow Jackets were 12-for-24 (50.0 percent) from beyond the arc, while the Belles were 7-for-22 (31.8 percent) on three-pointers. The Green and Gold were 13-for-16 (81.3 percent) from the free throw line, and outrebounded ASU, 35-27.

Marquita Daniels led all scorers with 24 points, while three other players scored in double figures for the Belles.

Stay tuned to during the offseason for all the news about the Yellow Jackets.
