    BHSU Rodeo: Jackets compete at Jackrabbit Stampede, women take first

    BROOKINGS, S.D. - The Black Hills State University rodeo teams opened the spring season by competing at the South Dakota State University Jackrabbit Stampede this weekend. The Yellow Jacket women brought home the team championship with 400 points.

    Savanah Johnston finished second in breakaway with a time of 6.5 on two, while KeAnna Ward was fourth with 2.5 on one. In goat tying, Carlee Johnston took second with a time of 13.0 on two go-rounds, and Ward was fifth with 15.4 on two.

    Joeni Lueders finished fourth in barrel racing in a time of 27.58 on two. Alyssa Lockhart won the long go with a 13.38, while Carlee Johnstonwas fourth in the event with a 13.62.

    On the men's side, Collin Palmer was fifth in tie down with 41.0 on two, and Jordan Staton was sixth with 14.1 on one. In team roping, Staton placed third with a time of 7.5 on one. Tucker Chytka was fifth in steer wrestling with 7.3 on one.

    "I was happy with the way the Yellow Jackets performed at the season opener. As always, there are areas we can improve on, but overall it was a good start," said Coach Glen Lammers. "We are looking forward to the opportunity to compete in our home arena next weekend."

    The Green and Gold next host the Will Lantis Yellow Jacket Stampede at Seven Down Arena on April 13 and 14. Performance times are Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
