USD MBB: Coyotes add California prep star Robinson

VERMILLION, S.D. – The South Dakota men’s basketball team has added 6-foot-4 guard Nathan Robinson to its roster for the 2018-19 season head coach Todd Lee announced.

Robinson, hailing from Walnut Creek, California, averaged 21 points, five rebounds and three assists per game during his senior campaign at Las Lomas High School. He led the Knights to a runner-up finish in Division I of the CIF State Championships and a program-best 31-4 record.

After the season, Robinson was named MVP of the Diablo Athletic League, named 49ers Cal-Hi Sports North Coast Section Co-Player of the Year and honorable mention all-state.

Prior to playing his senior season at Las Lomas, Robinson played three years of varsity basketball at Sacred Heart Cathedral where he averaged 14 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.

“Nathan is a smart and good offensive player,” Lee said. “He has valuable experience playing in international competition and will gain more valuable experience at the European Championships later this summer.

“Nathan is a good athlete and has the ability to be a really good player.”

Robinson has dual-citizenship with England after being born in the country and played for the Great Britain U18 National Team at the 2017 European Championships. He was a co-captain and helped the squad earn the Silver Medal in Division B. He averaged seven points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in the international competition and tallied 18 points in Great Britain’s victory over Albania.

Robinson’s father, Mark, played under Bobby Knight at Indiana before playing professionally in England.

The addition of Robinson brings Lee’s first recruiting class at USD to five, joining Jay Harvey, Matthew Johns, Simeon Jovic and Cody Kelley.
