USD FB: Coyotes to face Northern Arizona in 2020, 2021

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota football has agreed to a home-and-home series with the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks of the Big Sky Conference. The two teams will compete Sept. 12, 2020, in Flagstaff, Arizona, and Sept. 11, 2021, in Vermillion.

It is the second-such series between the two programs. They first met in 2013 where Northern Arizona earned a 22-16 win in Flagstaff. The Coyotes countered with a 28-21 victory inside the DakotaDome in 2014.

South Dakota has faced a Big Sky foe in every season since 2008, and that streak will extend to at least 2021. The Coyotes have totaled 15 games against eight different Big Sky teams in the last 10 years, compiling a 7-8 record which includes a 6-1 mark at home. In this upcoming season, USD will play its home opener against Northern Colorado on Sept. 8 before traveling to Utah to take on Weber State on Sept. 15.

The Coyotes rolled past defending Big Sky champ North Dakota, 45-7, last season in Vermillion en route to a 6-0 start, an 8-win season and the program’s first appearance in the FCS playoffs. USD went on the road to beat Nicholls to reach the round of 16 before falling to Sam Houston State in a Texas shootout.

    South Dakota’s 2020 Non-Conference Schedule:

    Sept. 5 @ Iowa State

    Sept. 12 @ Northern Arizona

    South Dakota’s 2021 Non-Conference Schedule:
