    USD FB: USD at Weber State one of two top-25 matchups

    VERMILLION, S.D.—The South Dakota football team, which competed in eight matchups of top-25 teams a year ago, has earned its first such matchup of 2018. The Coyotes are up one spot to No. 22 in this week’s STATS FCS poll and will face 11th-ranked Weber State Saturday at 6 p.m. (MDT) in Ogden, Utah.

    The matchup is one of two in the FCS featuring nationally-ranked teams in week three. No. 13 Nicholls travels to No. 16 McNeese in the Southland Conference opener for both teams. 

    The Coyotes entered the AFCA FCS Coaches’ Poll for the first time this season, coming in at No. 24. Weber State is ranked No. 13 by the coaches. Both teams enter with 1-1 records with a win against an FCS team and a loss at an FBS program. 

    The Missouri Valley Football Conference continues to have half its teams in the top 25. North Dakota State is No. 1, South Dakota State is No. 3, Illinois State is No. 19 and UNI is No. 21. 

    Big Sky vs. MVFC Update 

    The MVFC has a 3-2 lead against the Big Sky following wins by South Dakota (against Northern Colorado) and South Dakota State (against Montana State) in this year’s series with three games remaining. All three games take place Saturday: 

    Northern Arizona at Missouri State, 2 p.m. CDT

    Montana at Western Illinois, 3 p.m. CDT 

    South Dakota at Weber State, 7 p.m. CDT
