USD FB: Simmons named National Performer of the Week

VERMILLION, S.D.—South Dakota junior quarterback Austin Simmons (Council Bluffs, Iowa) has been named FCS National Performer of the Week by College Football Performance Awards. It marks the second time in as many seasons that a Coyote signal caller has earned the recognition.

Simmons’ recognition comes after completing 31 of 40 passes for 462 yards and accounting for five touchdowns in South Dakota’s 43-28 win against Northern Colorado Saturday inside the DakotaDome. Simmons was also the game’s leading rusher with 80 yards and a score.

The 462 yards passing is the third-highest single-game tally in program history, and Simmons’ 542 yards of total offense are second-most by a Coyote. Nationally thru two weeks, Simmons ranks second in total offense (799 yards), third in passing (719) and third in points responsible for (42).
