SDSU WBB: It's Basketball Time in Brookings

Two of the nation's top mid-major teams clash Friday when the South Dakota State women's basketball team (0-1) plays its home opener against Florida Gulf Coast (0-0) at 7 p.m. in the friendly confines of Frost Arena.

The Jackrabbits opened their 53rd season on the road Tuesday at No. 19 Marquette, losing 91-52. Friday's game is the season opener for the Eagles.

SDSU and FGCU are ranked second and eighth, respectively, in the CollegeInsider Mid-Major preseason poll released Tuesday.

    Noteworthy

    • The Jackrabbits have won nine of their last 10 home games, dating to a 67-61 win over Oklahoma Dec. 6, 2017.

    • Last year, State went 10-4 in nonleague games.
    • Both the Jackrabbits and the Eagles were picked to win their respective leagues.
    • Friday's game is the third meeting between South Dakota State and Florida Gulf Coast. The Jacks trail in the series 2-0. The last meeting between the teams was Dec. 29, 2017, when the Eagles won 87-78 in Florida.
    • SDSU is 5-2 against teams from the Atlantic Sun Conference and 2-2 versus teams from Florida.
