    USD MBB: Colorado 82, South Dakota 58

    BOULDER, Colo. – Colorado placed five in double-figure scoring as the Buffaloes topped the South Dakota men’s basketball team 82-58 Tuesday night at the CU Events Center. 

    South Dakota junior Tyler Peterson tallied a game-high 15 points while Trey Burch-Manning tallied his 1,000th-collegiate point as part of his 12 points. 

    Colorado improves to 6-1 on the season while the Coyotes fall to 4-4. 

    The Buffaloes never trailed in the contest and jumped out to an 8-1 lead until Peterson hit the first Coyotes’ field goal with 15:18 showing on the clock. The junior received a pass from Triston Simpson and hit the wide-open trey for the 8-4 score. 

    Colorado, who entered the game 26th in the nation in points per game, kept its foot on the gas and held USD to just 28 percent shooting in the first half and entered the intermission leading 41-28. 

    Colorado shot 48.1 percent from the field for the game and held a lead as large as 29 points before the final tally of 82-58. 

    Peterson reached double figures for the fifth time this season. The Summit League’s leader in free-throw percentage went 4-of-5 from the charity stripe.

    Burch-Manning, who tallied 258 points as a freshman at North Idaho College, recorded his 1,000th-collegiate point on a fade-away jumper midway through the second half. The senior also grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. 

    D’Shawn Schwartz and Evan Battey each led Colorado with 14 points with three others reaching the double-digit plateau. 

    The Coyotes return home to the Sanford Coyote Sports Center on Saturday hosting UMKC. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
