Forum Pollsters Class A Poll: 12-30-17

Contributing pith and insight to the first Class A boys hoops poll are Artis Gilmore, Jackalope, Birdman (sort of) and yours truly.

    1. Sioux Falls Christian (30 pts)
    2. Madison (27 pts)
    3. Tea Area (24 pts)
    4. Aberdeen Roncalli (17 pts)
    5. Dell Rapids (13 pts)
    6. Sioux Valley (12 pts)
    7. Sisseton (8 pts)
    8. tie Crow Creek, Dakota Valley, Red Cloud (7 pts)
    11. Pine Ridge (6 pts)
    12. Hill City (4 pts)
    13. Rapid City Christian (2 pts)
    14. Bon Homme (1 pt)

Honorable Mention: Vermillion, Stanley County, St. Thomas More, Hamlin, McLaughlin

General pithy comments from the pollsters:

Why? Is the Dak-XII website down or something?

The best teams are clustered around Sioux Falls in a radius of about 50 miles. Lucky for the rest of the state that these best players did not “open enroll” to the same school.

It’s still too early to determine if Roncalli or Sisseton is the beast of the Northeast. Or maybe even Redfield Doland should be considered.

The state champ will come out of region 2, 3 or 4.

The Black Hills is weak weak weak this season.

Guess we can't vote for CWL any more since they bailed to class "B", would have been a top five had they stuck around. And what's up with the Mustangs from Tri-Valley only getting one win so far?

Dak 12 looks to be dominant again with SFC, Madison, Tea and Dells, they don't even want to play each other a second time in their own classic, will try some new takers from the NEC to be their punching bags this season.  Speaking of which, look out for Sisseton, they always seem to come up with a competitive team, though rarely beating Roncalli.

Is this the season the Black Hills gets a break from nightly beatings courtesy of the Catholic bullies from south Rapid?  Or will their cunning coach Hollenbeck somehow rebuild on the fly and return the Cavs to glory by the post season?  Stay tuned.

    DELL RAPIDS
The Eagles may have lost Carson Wentz, but the Quarriers didn't lose Carson Rentz,  Add Schuck and the one remaining Mason, and the Quarriers still have a three pronged attack.  But the Quarriers still heavy underdogs to the powerful Cossacks on Saturday.

    DAKOTA VALLEY
Panthers starting strong, perhaps they don't dare push their luck again as a 16 seed?

    SIOUX VALLEY
After an opening night beat-down in the Kremlin courtesy of visitors from Clark, Cossacks respond by dominating Howard and the other teams from the Baltic region.

    MADISON
Bulldogs haven't lost any of their winter fur yet.

Madison is looking for a yearly double with a football championship already in the books and the Bulldogs have their sights set on a basketball trophy to add to the trophy case.

    ABERDEEN RONCALLI
Reede and Co. still perfect in the great white north.

    SIOUX FALLS CHRISTIAN
Chargers laying out some high voltage early in the season.

    RAPID CITY CHRISTIAN
Yes, I said Christian.  Has STM lost its iron grip on the open enrollment blue chippers in the west?

The Comets sit atop Region 8. Kind of like sitting on top of Buzzard’s Roost. Not a bad place to be.

    VERMILLION
Tanagers taking some early lumps. AJ is darn good, but needs more help than he is getting now.

    PINE RIDGE
Thorpes are a team to be reckoned with. Not sure if they are the best team in (or around) Pine Ridge though.

    STANLEY COUNTY
Won't get fooled again.  Not giving the Buffs more than an HM until they get past 10-0.

    BON HOMME
Don't know a thing about this team, except that they are undefeated and took down Tanagers.

    ST. THOMAS MORE
Not sure why the rebuilding Blue Cavs are getting a vote this season, maybe a lifetime achievement award?

What’s the over-under on the Evil Blue Empire making the Sweet 16?

Tommie More is as down as I have ever seen them under Coach Hollenbeck.

    HILL CITY
Showing the Rangers some love after recent surge to the top of the Black Hills conference.

    CHAMBERLAIN
Cubbies are hibernating so far this season. Will they wake from their slumber?

    TEA AREA
Not drinking the #1 tea-flavored kool-aid just yet after Rentz and Schuck took the Titans to OT at a local quarry.

Tea will be a tough out this season as they defend their title.

    HAMLIN
Light blue Chargers get a vote for being first team to get within 10 of Clark Willow Lake.

    RED CLOUD
'Saders dominating in the west, but loss to McLaughlin is suspect.
