SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana wrestling team continues its string of NSIC home duals with two matchups this weekend at the Elmen Center.
On Friday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. the Vikings will host MSU Moorhead on Senior Night. On Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. the Vikings go up against Minnesota State.
The Vikings go into the weekend with an 11-5 (5-0 NSIC) dual record on the season, including winning five straight duals. Last weekend, Augustana upset No. 19 Upper Iowa, 19-16, by winning the final three matches of the dual. Augustana is currently receiving votes in the Division II top-25 poll.
The top wrestlers for the Vikings are Aero Amo (184) and Michael Lowman (285). Amo ranks fifth nationally at 184 pounds with a record of 29-6 and a team-high 13 pins and six tech falls. Lowman holds a record of 21-7 with a dual record of 9-2 and eight falls on the season.
Lowman was named NSIC Wrestler of the Week for last weekend's performance. Lowman defeated fifth ranked Logan Hopp in the final match of the dual against Upper Iowa to clinch the upset victory for the Vikings.
The Dragons enter the weekend with a 4-8 (1-4 NSIC) record on the season after falling to U-Mary, 21-12, last weekend. MSU Moorhead is receiving votes in the Division II top-25 poll.
The Dragons are led by seniors Blake Bosch and Nader Abdullatif. Bosch is ranked second in the nation at 133 pounds with a record of 23-1 and Abdullatif is 16-8 on the season.
Minnesota State holds a record of 8-4 (4-1 NSIC) with its only conference loss of the season coming to No. 1 St. Cloud State. Minnesota State will host Northern State on Thursday, before its dual with Augustana on Saturday. The Mavericks are currently receiving votes in the Division II top-25 poll.
The Mavericks are paced by senior Adam Cooling and freshman Andrew McFall. Cooling currently ranks third at 174 pounds with a record of 27-1 and McFall is ranked 12th at 125 pounds with a record of 3-1.
The Weekend Ahead
The Friday night dual against MSU Moorhead will be Senior Night for the Vikings. The Vikings will honors seniors: Jacob Anderson, Brandon Charbonneau, Morgan Engbrecht, Ben Goodwin, Brent Havlik, Michael Lowman, Adrian Lozano, Tyler Nation and Javier Vieyra.
On Saturday afternoon, fans can buy one ticket and get one free and can get a "crush" for your crush. Saturday's dual is also Parents Day.
On Thursday, Feb. 16 the Vikings will take on No. 1 St. Cloud State at 7 p.m. in their last dual of the season.
