Straub (Deadwood), Bauer (Wall), Johnson (Philip) ink with Tigers!

MITCHELL, S.D. – Jesse Volek gets the chance to train and compete in her hometown for a few more years.

Volek, a senior sprinter and jumper on the Mitchell High School track and field team, signed recently to compete collegiately with the Dakota Wesleyan University track team, head coach Pat Belling announced this week. Volek is the Tigers’ eighth recruit for 2014 and the seventh female to join the DWU track program next season.

In her career with the Kernels, Volek has competed in the 200-, 400- and 800-meter dashes as well as the triple jump and long jump. Her best mark in the triple jump is 33-feet-10.5 inches, and her best leap in the long jump is 15-10.5. Volek’s best 200 time in 28 seconds, her best 400 time is 59 seconds and her best mark in the 800 is 2:35.

Volek joins freshman sprinter Morgan Straub (Deadwood, S.D.) on the list of the Tigers’ recruits for 2014. She is also joined by Ariana Arampatzis (Aberdeen) who competes in hurdles, jumps and multi-events; pole vaulter Madeline Bauer (Wall, S.D.); middle distance and distance runner Misty Jonson (Philip, S.D.); thrower Brenna Martin (Onida, S.D.) and middle distance runner and hurdler Jessica Neises (Madison, S.D.).
